Winter Starling
These are colouring up nicely as the winter draws closer. So smart and so over-looked IMO. I never used to appreciate these as much as I do now that I am looking at them through the viewfinder.

C&C more than welcome.

NICE     :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

Something slightly funny going on in the BG behind the head but it's a very smart image of a very smart bird.

Hi Eric,

Love it! I could never understand why people hated these birds so much - I find jackdaws are more of a pain in the butt!

I agree Eric, they are superb birds. People are very peculiar when it comes to what they regard as a pest. They scream the house down if a fox gets killed but killing a rat (by any foul means) is fine!
Anyway, nice pic. There is a big winter roost not far from here and this year I intend to locate it properly and get some images. I saw a flock of many thousands from the car on my way home from work the other evening and when they landed the field looked black!

Hi Robert,
I have always had a thing about that display that you sometimes get as they go to roost. I used to see it a lot when fishing on the fens and there was something magical about the huge skies and vast flocks swirling around like smoke. You could see smaller flocks coming from miles away and joining the throng and then all of sudden they would drop into some distant trees and that's it -they've all gone in a moment. Tremendous.

Essence of Starling . A really pleasing photo that brings out the alert and inquisitive character of the bird nicely.

Lovely shot, Eric, of a much-overlooked bird. Just disappointed you didn`t use the Sigma 500mm to take it!
