A little play on Youssef's play on the title... :-)
This was captured early in the morning in Lee Vining canyon on the second day of our CANP gathering. Preston's "Aspens and Grasses, Lee Vining Canyon" and Harley's "Lone Bole" were taken during the same outing and Youssef was mere yards from me when I was working these leaves.
Although really it's just another leaf image with an out of focus background, but I'm really happy with this. I've been "experimenting" as of late by using the tilt/swing capabilities of the LF in an extreme way. In this case, the front standard was back tilted approx 20deg. This of course really throws off the focus of the top and bottom of the image and in combination with a relatively open lens at f/8, created a very narrow plane of focus.
I was extremely happy that the trio of leaves are sharp top to bottom (you can even see frost crystals on the slide) and the rest of the scene is more than sufficiently blurred.
What to you think? How about the colors/contrast?
Should I post this in ES&S?
4x5, 210mm, V100f, f/8 1/8s
thanks!

This is beautiful, Lon. Stuff like this with LF is not easy. I usually bring out my digital for this.
Wonderful one, Lon. Like Dan with the digital useage on something like this, I usually dig out my Medium Format so I can grind off a few shots with various settings and filtration. I would say, on to ESS it is.....

This looks underexposed. But I really like the soft background and composition.

Very nice, Lon, nice placement of the leaves, the limited DOF works for me, maybe just a "touch" more snap, well done
This looks nice, Lon. I am amazed that there was no wind! The plane of focus is perfect, and the color is spot-on. I agree with Reno that just a touch more snap would be nice, too. Can you post one with a bit (a tiny bit) more contrast, just to compare? I'd like to see this in a print. Good stuff!
We did have a good time!

Wow, Lon you keep producing from that weekend some very nice stuff. I think it's very worthy of posting ESS. I really like the out of focus background having all those circular shapes to it.

Thanks Guys. I appreciate the feedback. Here's one with a little boost. Too much?

Lon,
I commented on this over on ESS but wanted to add that I had thought of trying a closeup on some frosted aspen leaves that morning as well, but did not have the patients to try it that morning. I did find a nicely backlit leaf that had fringe lighting that highlithed the frost on the edges, but the light was changing so fast that I could not get it in time. I wish I had at least tried now. Congrats on this fine image.
