Rock Creek
Hi everybody. I sure have missed posting to this forum. I've been working WAY too much and haven't gotten out much at all. But now I'm on vacation for nine days! I wasted no time in heading to the woods, spending the night in the back of the Tahoe Friday night so that I could start exploring Rock Creek in the Big Piney Creek drainage at first light.
That afternoon, as I rounded a turn 1.5 miles upstream I was very, very surprised to find a small running waterfall. If that wasn't enough luck, clouds began to hide the sun about that time and I was able to get some shots off.

That's a wonderful little spot you found! Good shot!

Glad to hear you got out John and as fate would have it, you had a little luck waiting. Nice comp, the water color is a little unusual but I like it. Tom and I saw some strange coloration in Falling Water creek too. Looking forward to seeing more!

It is good to know you put your vacation time to such excellent use. I am particularly taken by the incredible depth of blue in the water. It is a wonderful counterpoint to the colorful leaves.

Beautiful shot, John, and a great way to re-join the living. I like how all the parts fit together here, the strong line of the rock shelf played off against the shorter line of the foreground boulder, the huge boudlder on the right balanced by the leaf-covered shelf on the left, the inverted V of the top edge of the pool and the mirrored V of the rock shelf, the blue pool playing off the fall fall foliage above the rock shelf. A very sweet composition.

Wow, just an incredible scene John. I think Randy summed it up well. The color is beautiful and what a great composition. Outstanding work! Hope you are able to get more this week...look forward to seeing them.

John, glad you out and about, I echo what everyone else has said. This is a wonderful shot with a perfect mix of colors above the falls.

Hi John, it's good to see you post again! And what a wonderful one at that. Beautiful color up top and the leaves around the fall and on the water make for a wonderful pleasing image.

Never trust your camera's auto color balance. Here's a reworked version where I used a gray balance card....
