Another new work
And since I've been back in Oregon, I've had a chance to lead a couple tours during which I have captured a few images I find attractive. This is one from Oceanside last week, taken at sunrise. THIS, is why sunrise is a great time to shoot the Pacific Coast. I'd be happy to get any comments or suggestions.

Heavy camera, very wide lens, 2-stop GND, polarizer, 2 seconds at f/18.

Hey, really, really nice, Marc. I spent all last week out in Oceanside with my wife on our honeymoon. With only a couple of exceptions, every day brought great cloud formations and color to the morning and evening skies. I know you can cut through some of that haze on the rocks by burning the shadows a bit, but that may or may not hold fast to what you visualized for the photo (and might mess with the color). As is, this holds true to the scenes I saw out there. Thanks for posting this--it's my favorite beach on the coast and your timing is just right!

(I like your equipment list  )

Your work is unique enough that I often think I could guess it in a photo line-up, but I'm not so sure if I would have guessed this one. While this has amazing DOF, great lines leading into the photo, a nice and bright center of interest for the eye to be led into, and the trademark vignetting, this photo is interesting in that it has more subtle color and contrast than a lot of your work that I have seen. While I like it a lot, IMHO it doesn't stand out from the crowd as much as much as some of your other seascapes.

Yep, sunrise on the coast is the ticket. It seems like almost no matter what the weather is doing, when you are out in the morning, there is always a way to get a good photo. Sunset, on the other hand, can really get ruined by the good 'ol fogbank rolling in just before the sun goes down.

As for the photo, not the normal drama packed light bonanza that you usually show us, but a quality image throughout. It might benefit from a slight contrast boost, but without killing the soft morning feel.

This is a sweet shot. The lines of foam connected to the rocks really lead your eyes through the photo. While different from your other seascapes, perhaps more subtle, it is just as worthy IMO to be shown with them. My only suggestion would be to darken the seastacks just a tad, the highlights are going slightly hot on my monitor especially on the left stack.

I like it. It's subtle and the soft light is handled very nicely. The stacks are bright, but the light is warm and it makes for a nice focal point. I might brighten the lower left a tiny bit, but can't think of anything else. Perfect shutter speed. I have many similar comps from this area but none with such nice light. Btw, you have taken your photography to a whole nother level with your new images. Congrats!
