Monument Rocks Sunrise
I was out in NW Kansas this weekend so made some time to visit the Castle Rock and Monument Rocks areas. Thanks for the directions and tips, Rob!!

This was taken at Monument Rocks right around sunrise. It was peaceful and quiet -- except for the intermittant bang! bang! of hunters blasting pheasants (yesterday was opening day). When I pulled in, there was one vehicle parked and I thought "I'll bet that's a photographer - who else would be here at this ungodly hour?" Sure enough, it was a guy from Calif. who had seen Monument Rocks on a postcard at Walmart (of all places) and decided to come check it out. I was quick to point out to him that not all of Kansas is flat and gave him directions to Castle Rock and told him he should visit the Flint Hills as well sometime.

I am always amazed when I see images of these monoliths. I had planned to visit them this past July but it had been raining non-stop and I didn't much feel like mudding it.

Very nice soft light Angela, you had some wonderful clouds as a backdrop. Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome, Angela. Glad you made it out there and had some truly great weather too. I can guess where you were standing to shoot this, and it isn't a perspective that I've tried yet. I'm jealous of the clouds you had :). Well done.

Angela, it looks a lot like Monument Valley, nice shot and with great clouds.

Very nice, Angela - beautiful sky. I've never gotten there at sunrise (usually mid-day is when I get there :frown: ), but you've done well with it!
