Arkansas Fall Color This Week

I've been shooting fall color in Arkansas for more than 30 years and I've never seen anything like it. The color is spectacular in the Ozarks and Ouachitas at the same time, although the color has drained away from the greater upper Buffalo River metroplex, but the rest of the state sure does make up for it. I've been on the road for a couple of days and will be out for the next week - I suspect much of the vivid color will be gone in the next few days - this kind of color comes and goes in a hurry and does not last long. Several times I've thrown up my hands and just sat down on a rock because I did not know which direction to point the camera. I've never seen it like this before.

And who would have thunk that one of the best stands of cypress would be in an Ozark lake with a hillside of color behind it?

You know - I didn't realize cypress could be so pretty in the fall! Those are gorgeous!

Hey Tim, wait 'til you read next week's Journal! I'm headed to the real swamps tomorrow for the rest of the week and will be living in them hunting for magical light and hope to find some really good scenes. By the way, this image was shot hand-held with a very long and heavy lens - I'm using some new equipment and have been frankly stunned at the image quality when used this way. We have come a long way baby.......

Beautiful Tim, from the water all the way up. Good luck with your travels.

A beautiful patchwork of color Tim. Can't wait to see your images from the swamps.

Thanks for the update, Tim. I haven't been to the Ouachitas yet this year - was waiting till this weekend. Hope I'm not too late!

I'm looking forward to some great cypress shots...if you're lucky maybe you'll see another Ivory-billed woodpecker too!

Beautiful shot Tim. Agreed the color is great but is changing daily. The winds may be higher on Wed also, I hope it doesn't take a big hit and we loose alot of color.

Wow Tim, fantastic color, it looks like one the scenes you see from New England.
