Yes, I have been there a few times. I have found it quite a struggle in the past as it is quite an open choppy reserve at least it always seems to be whenever I go !!
There are a couple of hides, the first one you come too has been pretty good for lapwings, I would imagine further round would be best for the Kingfishers though. Be wary of all the birdwatchers tho
Best of luck !

Hi Chris,
Not sure what lens you have but the longer the better. As Drew says it can be a struggle. When I went regulary, I always went for the furthest hide at the far end of the Lakes, stayed quiet in there for most of the day. There is a Kingfisher hide but not really had one come really close. There is a small visitor centre (only open certain days) offering refreshments with feeders outside that attract a good range of species. It may be a little early but there is normally a massive winter roost of Starling. You will see things just walking around from hide to hide, so keep your eyes peeled. But if you are going there solely for Kingfisher images you might get very frustrated.
Not sure how long/when you are in Suffolk for, bit I am free on Sunday morning and you would be more than welcome to come over to my patch (Stonechat, Corn Bunting, Lapwing, Golden Plover and more all showing well) I live about 30 mins from Lackford in Sudbury.
Regards
Rob

Hi Rob,
That is most kind and I really appreciate it Thank you.
I live not too far from Sudbury in Braintree so am just exploring the localish area. I will get in contact with you privately if that is OK.

3 repliesDoes anybody have any experience of the Lackford Lakes NR in Suffolk for Photography?
It mentions on the SWT website that it is pretty good for Kingfisher and this seems to be my bogey bird as I can never find one nearby.
Many thanks for any help offered.
Chris.
