A slight downturn in my general health which is not going to go away but which I can live with has made me look at lighter weight options... which I have now found.
Unfortunately It means selling my Mark 1 400/2.8 to fund it. The lens is well used with all the scuffs and marks to prove it, has had neoprene covers since I bought it. It is excellent bare, super with the 1.4x and still great with the 2x (provided you stop down), you have all seen images taken with this lens with both extenders.
This lens does front focus, which has never bothered me as I only use AF to get into the ball park, but one of the independant service centres will be able to calibrate it and I have priced it a lot lower than I bought it for to take that into account.
Asking £1500, because of the weight local delivery or meeting half way would be the best option.

sorry to hear about your health phil. I'm the previous owner of this lens and sold it only cos i moved onto a 300-800. The USM motor on the lens is in good health as well as i had it replaced only a year before i sold it on. £1500 is a steal for this lens to be honest!
