Another shot from Rock Creek taken Saturday afternoon. I thought about combining several shots to achieve more tonal range, but decided I liked this how it was.

John - the light on the rocks on the right is just fantastic, as is the light in the trees on the hill in the right side of the picture. The sky isn't doing much for me, though.

You've captured some really vivid color in the boulders and foliage, and I like the dramatic range of tonalities. Good old Ozark pickup sized boulders always bring a touch of spectacle to an image, and here you've got two playing off of each other, one light and one dark. I think I can live with the kind of hot sky since it does have some blue in it.
How did you handle color balance for this shot, John?

I carry a gray balance card in my pocket but it doesn't do much good in a shot like this so I just winged it. I adjusted the temperature slider in Lightroom a little towards yellow is all.

What Tim said. That is some beautiful dramatic light coming down the drainage here, but I wish the bright sky were toned down a bit.
I like the DEEP blacks, but I would like to see the bright sky toned down more. I wouldn't really recommend an HDR, but a sky exposure with some detail blended in would be a quick easy fix. Otherwise, this is very, very nice.

John, I like the light spilling down this drainage and the contrast between the dark left side and the brilliantly illuminated right side. IMO, the bright sky commands too much attention as the eye tries to move through the frame but that could be minimized with a bit more post processing. Just my $0.02 worth. Thanks for sharing.

John very nice shot, I agree with the comments on the sky. You may try to tone just a bit.

Hey John glad to see your out and shooting. A really cool ange on the creek and great color and light on the trees.

Here's a repost with a fix to the sky and a little more spot saturation in places. Thanks for the comments.
