This is my first sunrise arch captured at 6:04 a.m. on 10/30/2008.
Canon 50D and 24-70 2.8L @24MM. I had a great time in an amazing place! C&C welcome.

I'll bet it was a beautiful morning!
On this (uncalibrated) monitor, the image looks a little dark; there's not much detail in the shadows and the highlights have plenty of room to lighten up before they blow out.
Composition - boy, this is tough. I like this comp, but I can't help wondering how it would have looked a whole bunch closer to the arches, using a wider angle lens.
What a neat area - I've been once a long time ago and wouldn't mind going back.

Hey John, the graphic strength of this really makes it work. The reds seem to be too red, so I'd perhaps move them a little closer to orange (but still mostly red), and maybe crop some of the negative space along the bottom. I'm a little on the fence about the crop, but it might be worth a try.

Are you sure about this being sunrise? It appears to me that it is sunset! Otherwise very nice graphic image, and I agree with Todd about toning down the red highlights.

I was at this location both in the am and pm. I think my clock in the cam is wrong. The other time stamps don't make sense either according to the light and sun position. My bad! I have a variety of shots from different positions and saturations I just can't make up my mind. I didn't think to pull out the 10-22. I was trying be everywhere at once. I will keep working on this one I think. Thanks for the comments. Arches is really amazing I wish I had more time on this trip.

Nice stuff John! Glad to hear you got out to Utah with your new 50D camera! I am on a pre-order list for the 5D II. Man it has seemed like a very long time waiting it to hit the market.
I like this comp. I haven't seen one like this before. I guess it would be cool to see a close up as Erik mentioned as well. I look forward to seeing some more shots from the trip.
Utah was beautiful driving through from CO to NorCal.

Hey Derek, thanks for stopping by, Lots of ways to shoot the arches. One could spend many days there experimenting with diifernt comps, times and light. I enjoyed your photos of the kids on the beach with the tall shadows... nice touch.

John, the colors and comp look good to me! Id like to see a bit more definition of the fg trees though.
