I finally made it down to Cumberland Falls prepared to shoot, and the conditions weren't too bad. We've had VERY dry conditions, and there is a lot of brown to show for it. Cumberland Falls is often called the "Niagara of the South," and it's much bigger than it seems in this photo. 120 feet across and 60 feet tall. I intend to get person in a kayak or canoe in the water for scale. Maybe next trip.
And I have to credit my friend, Alex for this find, but this is the most "Human" face I have ever seen in the woods. It was just down the hill from our campsite. It was a bit creepy when you backed off and looked at it through the woods. But very cool.

The head-on, straightforward perspective and composition really let the grandeur of the location speak for itself. Beautiful shot regardless of how big or small the falls are, but even more spectacular given the grand scale.
On the basis of this waterfall alone, I'd be willing to give Kentucky honorary Arkansas status.

Very nice autumn waterfall shot Dominic! From your description, it is much larger than it looks here. The foreground rock provides a nice anchor for the image, and the fall color is really nice too. I'll bet calmer water would make for some great reflections.

Only the mist where the falls hit the water hints at this waterfall's size. Beautiful quality of light!

great detail and light, the sparkling foreground water seems to draw my eye away from the falls

You're right, it is hard to get a sense of scale on this one. I would never have guessed it was that size, but as Tim mentioned, the mist does give a clue. Thanks for sharing the Cumberland Falls with us.

Beautiful scene Dominic. Nice control of the colors too... the rocks, water, and foliage are seem dead-on.

Nice shot Dominic. I agree - a kayak or ? in the foreground will definitely give a sense of scale. The color in the trees above the falls give a nice contrast to the water and rocks. Thanks for sharing.

The face in the rock is a bit eerie! Good capture.
