The recent snowstorm in Colorado Springs brought with it some great contrasts between fall and winter. I headed down to North Cheyenne Canyon park to capture a few shots with the 4X5.

This was shot on Kodak E100G. Its the first time I've scanned this film, so it might take me a little while to get it just right, but on the light table I'm loving this film. It has better skin tones than Astia with the saturation of Provia and a nice wide dynamic range.

Last year I shared a couple shots from this spot and Jack asked me if they were shot on 4X5. Unfortunately my 150mm was in the shop getting its shutter cleaned last year. I've corrected the problem this time around.

Dynamic range looks huge. Looks like you chose a scene to give it a good test. I would be tempted to crop down from the top to about halfway down the nearest right side tree truck. The small pops of yellow compliment the cool color temp nicely.

Thanks for your comment Pam. I'll try that crop suggestion when I get home.

I'm also a bit concerned as I see this on my work monitor that it looks very dark. That wasn't the case with the slide and I thought I had gotten the density about right at home. I exposed the snow on the right at +1 or +1.5, but now it looks to me as if it is scanned at +0EV. I've recently calibrated my home monitor, so I would think it was fine.

Looks a little dark on my monitor at work too Mel, especially on the lower half of the image, so I think your instincts are right. However, the snow looks exposed perfectly without any blown highlights. I imagine that this will continue to be a tricky image to work with. Color balance appears a little blue, but as Pam mentioned the sporatic leaves add some nice warmth to the image.

I reworked the image. New scan and new processing.

Hey Mel, Nice shot man. The rework looks great on my monitor and opened up the deatil in the shadows.

Nice image! I really like the repost and the blue tones in the image.
