Osprey + REPOST
Canon EOS 1Ds MKII, 600mm f4 IS, 1.4x conv, ISO 320, f5.6, G1548, G1321, 40%ish crop.

Hi All,

I had been told that an Osprey had been seen fishing in the lakes at a local golf club, I missed one that was in Suffolk a few weeks back, so really wanted to see this one, well I wasn't dissapointed!!!! It sat perched in this tree top scanning the water for a long time, sadly when it did become more active the light had gone and I was down to 1/50 at ISO 1600, so not good, very blurred, although I may just try my luck with WPOTY comp  It gave great views through the bino's fishing in very close at times

All comments welcome

Regards

Hi Rob

Not the sort of tree and branch you expect to see an Osprey perched on - so quite different from most Osprey images. Composition is good but the image looks a little yellow/red I feel this image would look a lot better if you adjusted the colour channels individually in levels and gave it another round of USM!

Wow, really like this shot, it gives you an idea of how big these birds are. Though it look as though sharpness is lacking.

Hi David,

Totally agree!! Funny you don't see things yourself. The light was at the end of the day so slighty red and the trees surrounding it are all golden at the moment, however, I feel it looks better with the suggested tinker and it needed some more USM, so thanks for the helpful advise.

Great shot Rob - repost is a real winner.
Really envious of you - I keep getting tip-offs that ospreys are at various Broads around here, but whenever I turn up they're nowhere to be seen :frown:

Rob

Agree repost much improved. Been tracking the Loch Garten chicks on the RSPB site although one of them had a rather sad end after losing its bearings!

Hi Rob,

The before and after posts really show how much an image can be improved with correct use of sharpening techniques.

Excellent.

Very nice Rob, repost has brought it out well.

Only seen one of these since I was a kid, that was a couple of weeks ago when it flew over the reserve I volunteer at. Pity it wasn't 10 minutes earlier when a passer-by haughtily remarked "you don't get ospreys here at this time of year they're all in Africa" after reviewing our sightings board!
