This photo of a Cedar Waxwing was taken in front of the UW-Stout library. Every fall the Waxwings show up to gorge themselves on the fruit. It’s interesting to watch the birds because the fruit has started to ferment and some of the birds get a little tipsy. We have had instances of them actually falling out of the trees. On this day there were about 50+ Waxwings in the area.

Phil, I like the composition and the situation (waxwing gorging on fermented fruit with a piece of the fruit in the bird's mouth) but I can't get past the soft eyes and head. I've been looking for a waxwing shot like this for awhile now, but have had no luck. They are gorgeous birds - thanks for sharing,
Nice shot. Must be quite a sight with a bunch of them around. Do you know if they wait till the berrys ferment or if they eat them all the time? Is it intentional or accidental that they get inebreated.

Good shot, Philip! Cedar waxwings are on my "special" birds list because I see them so rarely.
I agree with Brian that the shot is soft; it also seems that the jpg conversion or sharpening has created some issues, too (or, maybe not)...

Very nice Philip, they are definitely beautiful birds even if they do like to party a little

Nice shot Philip. Like those before me, I'm still waiting to get a waxwing shot. BTW, I find it easier to get toasted on terra firma, less dangerous! They should wait till the fruit drops

Really nice pose and composition, Phil....but I have to agree with the others regarding the softness of the head. Like Bruce, I'm still waiting to get my first shot of a CWW.

Philip,
Not much more to say that hasn't been said however.... the catch light in the eye is the icing on the cake for this shot.
