Where is a reasonable place to get framing materials in Anchorage? Things like foamcore and matboard backing. I've gotten other things at Blaine's,but not matboard. Any other places? We don't make it to Anchorage often, and I better make the trip count!

Genny,
I order all of my supplies. When I am in need of something asap, I go to Frames Etc on Northern Lights, less expensive then Blaines and a larger supply. I was once told there was a place in town that sold bulk board, but I have never found this elusive place. Maybe someone else knows where it is?

Thanks, Carl. I haven't ever been to Frame Etc; I'll try them. I order so much stuff the UPS Store people have my number memorized...... The shipping really adds up, though. Some outfits sure have better shipping deals than others.
It seems like I've heard of another place selling in bulk, too. I'll keep looking, too.
Thanks!

New to NPN. Used to live in Anchorage but left in 2005 (now in Washington). I would get all framing supplies from Alascan Distributors, a wholesale outfit. tel 907-562-1554. Great folks, decent prices. Stock Bainbridge and Crescent board, Neilsen and Designer frames; about everything you would need. Hope they are still in business. Perhaps they are who you were thinking of.

Vance,
Thanks for the info, I think that is the place. I don't know if they are still around but I will give them a call and see.
How is Washington treating you?

Carl, hope Alascan can help you guys out. They were always good to me. Interestingly when I did a search for Alascan on Google, I did not find a website (they were working on one in 2005) but found a website for an Alaskan Distributors (with a 'k'), also a framing supplier in Anchorage. Wonder if Alascan got bought out or something.
I miss Alaska very much (lived there 23 yrs). Washington is nice. We live on the Olympic peninsula which is very pretty and I love the huge trees. But its not Alaska. The saying that once an Alaskan, always an Alaskan is very true. You can take the man out of Alaska but you can't take Alaska out of the man (or something along those lines). I now know exactly what that means.
Best, Vance

I know this response is a little late; however, I just started reading the forums lately. Alascan Dist. was sold in 2006 to new owners. The old manager Doris is gone and the new owners have raised the prices significantly. I was a regular customer of Alascan Dist. for over 10 years before they were sold. Now, if you need to buy foamcore or matboard here are two excellent resources. Alaska frame on Arctic--speak with Said Obeidi and tell him Dan sent you. Secondly, for bulk or larger orders contact Denali Graphics and speak with Tom. Tel. for Denali Graphics is 561-4456. When I last placed a bulk order at Denali Graphics I paid $75 per case for 32 x 40 inch foamcore---that was in August, 2008. Hope this is not too late and helps.
Cheers, Dan
