Dunes....and SNOW!!
I waited a year to shoot Zapata falls again half-frozen (best time to shoot Zapata) and yesterday's snow seemed a good excuse to take a drive out there, had the falls to myself in fantastic foggy conditions. Much to my delight, the clouds broke late afternoon and i witnessed the most fantastic conditions ive ever seen at the Dunes (and up there overall too!) No way to capture the amazing light, but that didnt stop me from taking 200 exposures in 30 minutes! Have yet to process my best from yesterday, but here's a few to share with y'all, would love to hear your thoughts. One more in...gasp...Fauna!
Oh yeah, the drive home over La Veta in whiteout conditions was extra special!

The light at sunset was insane.

Even better than west, was east! Hope to get the rest processed next few days. (Aside--seems a bit quiet here at RMNP, where is everyone??)

Nice shots Stan, really like that second one. Got any of the falls? I think everyone is out trying to get those first shots of winter.

Tis the season for sure. Yes, i rectified my mistakes from last Novemeber (not enough exposure) and should have the Falls shots ready later this week, hopefully there will be some other posts before then so i dont feel like im hogging the forum

Very cool, Stan... I'd love to see some closeups if you have 'em. Those curving lines of white on orange are gorgeous.

The first one and last one (especially that last one!) are my faves, but they're all tremendous. Can't wait to see much more!

I like the fauna shot, but I love #2. I hope you have more like that. It's amazing what the snow has done to the dunes.

Nat, unfortunately if i had gotten closer to that section of the dunes i would have missed the big picture--there was only 1/2 hour of light to work with. Here's one of the north dune face.

Great shots Stan. Love all the atmospherics. I spent most of the day yesterday on the road back from Sedona. Cool weather both there and back home, but I didn't get to shoot much of it. :frown:

Those look great, Stan. You have some great photos lately. 1, 2 and 3 are the best for me. Snow on dunes is really cool. Nice catch.

I really like the light and color in the second to last image. Also like the deer in the first image as well.

Great shots Stan,
I like the first 3 but #2 really stands out to me.

Great series, Stan. I think 1 & 2 are my favorites. Just the right amount of snow to highlight the shapes of the dunes. Perfect timing on this trip!

Understandable Stan... I guess that's where a 600 mm comes in handy for landscape work

Number 2 is just incredible, Stan.

Glad you were able to time your trip so well.
Don't think I've ever seen the dunes in snow before.
That second one is wonderful! Love the separation between the sand and the mountains.

Stan,
2,3, & 4 blow me away. Wish I lived closer to the dunes so I could catch some snow like that. Great work!
