Pictured Rocks Fall Scenic
This is one of my favorite locations in Michigan's UP - Miner's Beach area of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. In the fall, evening light helps saturate the colors of the cliffs. I found lingering pools of rain water on the rocks and used what I could in the composition, but the shadows were creeping in and limiting my options of how to best make use of the reflections in the pools. This was my best effort on a gorgeous fall evening in an incredibly beautiful place. I welcome all comments and critiques,

I really need to get up to this area someday. It's iconic but still looks like one great place to do some photography. The rocky shoreline reminds me a lot of the Oregon Coast in spots.
On a personal note, this image seems just a tad warm to me, but that's just me You really did a good job on the DOF. A nit pick would be leaving some space on the rocky point--left side just below center.
Nice one though!

Brian, I know exactly where you were standing when you shot this. (I last headed out to this point in the fall of '06 and produced this image.)

The late afternoon light really can make the place glow. Nicely captured.

Looks like a great place. Maybe next year.

Very nice take on a classic Lake Superior location Brian. I need to get back there soon. The afternoon light works well to accentuate the cliffs.

Very nice lighting on the whole scene, Brian. I think I 'd crop up from the bottom a bit to just below the foreground puddles...that would force the viewer to stay more focused on the cliffs.

Thanks to all those who took the time to post a comment - very helpful and much appreciated! Toni, I tried several different compositions on my visit, but decided I had seen too many others that had highlighted the cliffs. I really liked the pools and the reflections, and decided to accentuate the foreground. But you're probably right about the amount along the bottom of the frame. I did like the leaves in the pool in the bottom left and kept them in, but it does take away from the cliffs as you mentioned.
