Nice pleasing image Tom :wavey:

Couple of points; for me it could do with more room on the right (image too square) and it's a bit tight at the bottom edge - not enough room for those "virtual" hind hooves.

Nice and sharp - good job

I really like this as presented, but there again I shoot 4:3 and not 3:2 formats in the main, any more room to the right would give too much empty space for me. It has a wonderfull sense of king of the hills about it.

I like it as it is, however a little bit to the bottom though. Lovely and sharp ! I actually think the BG works well for the image, I guess the only other thing would be if you had nice sun setting light(sorry not that technical term)

Nits covered but I like the background which gives more of a sense of "space" than most deer shots.
Good one.

I agree about the nits. Still a very nice shot though.

This works well for me too, but I have to agree with 'Andy' on this one.. A little too tight in the frame, but the setting of the landscape just makes this a very pleasing NH image.

A little tight in the frame bottom left but still works very well for me. The impressive background makes the image.

Real Monarch of the Glen stuff! Like everything about it, especially the setting.

Many thanks to you all for your kind comments and observations which are very much valued and appreciated.

Very interesting reading everyone's thoughts on the framing.

I think this image is so close to being very very good, I don't think the square crop works too well here, maybe a bigger crop with more of the landscape would help set it off as a great environmental NH shot.

On a side note, the image quality across his back/rear and the foreground looks a tad on the over sharpened or over processed side. Apologies if thats how it was, I'm not normally that much of a pixel peeper.... honest :D

Cracking shot Tom but with a bit more space it would have been a 'stunner'

The square doesn't work for me, but nevertheless a great image and lovely scenery

Hi Tom,

Have come back to this a few times... agree with the expressed sentiments on the crop and the slightly 'strange' look to the hind quarters... I think that the stag and the forground are a little oversharpened.

Like the sense of environment, but I am a bit disturbed by the distant shoreline of the lake (?) cutting through the top of the head/ears, obviously, as I wasn't there, I not sure if a slight change in viewpoint could have changed that.

Still a good image.

Thanks for your comments Tim Gregory, David Kjaer, Sandra Hendrikse and PhiH which are very much appreciated.

This image is cropped on the LH only so in answer to 'more space' this is doable but would move the Stag central in the frame - do you think that would work better?

The look on the hind quarters is not a problem to re-edit - I can't see a way to replace the existing image in this post.

As for a different viewpoint for this stag that unfortunately was not a possibility - he was gone over the hill just after the shot was taken

There was another stag with this one who I was able to get from a different perspective - but that was at the expense of the loch backdrop.

Tom - great setting here, very different from the usual deer shots and immediately takes you to Scotland. Agree with the nits covered, but still like it a lot

Tom, I prefer the crop on the 'other' Forum compared to this, however, the colours & sharpness is much better on this one
