Hello everyone! So, I'm on a six or so month delay for posting photos. Even though I didn't shoot a ton this year, I'm still way behind on images, especially the digital stuff. Soon!

Anyway, here are a couple 4x5's from the awesome Dad's Gone Utah trip I made in April with Brent Murphy, Scott Bacon, and Chris Ebright. On our way home, we stopped through the Cathedral Valley section of Capitol Reef National Park, one of my absolute favorite spots! The drive takes you through the awesome Bentonite Hills, and naturally we had to stop and shoot for an hour or so. Could have stayed for a lot longer for sure! Thanks for looking.

One more. Which one works best, vertical, or horizontal? Thanks!

Brent,
Both are very strong but I think my preference is for the horizontal. I like the expanse of that first mound coming in from the right. The vastness seems to lose a little in a vertical format. Great shots both though!.

Brent,

I like the second composition better because the right hill separates better.

There is a magenta cast in the image though. I'd guess it was a long exposure on velvia.

Definitely the horizontal!! Only a six month backup - dude you put me to shame!!

I really can't pick a favorite as they are both excellent, Brent. There is a magenta cast to them that I'd like to see corrected, but that's minor.

Thanks guys! I too like the horizontal. I like that convergence of mounds on the right that gets lost in the vertical.

Mel, might be a slight extra magenta from Velvia, but it's fairly true to the scene. That's what's cool about that place, 20 feet to the left, the ground is almost all white.

Subtle colors and tonality, interesting shapes and textures, very Porteresque! I like the horizontal better because it is "flatter" and more abstract. But the vertical would display better in some locations, such as an entryway. Nice work!

There is a small object in the upper left that could be an interesting element if identifiable. But at the small display size I find it a distraction.

Cathedral Valley is also one of my favorite places. Both of these are really cool. Looking forward to seeing your Snowy Range shots from the summer too. Hope you make some good progress on your processing work. :toast:

Looks like a neat spot! I slightly prefer the 2d.

Beautiful images Brent. I love the texture and soft colors. I'm partial to the 2nd image, for sure.

Great images! The horizontal is really nice.
