Now then, I've still got a bit of equity in the house that I can liquidise, then sell the kids...

hi andrew. haha you beat me to it...only you won't need to sell any houses at 2,500 dollars for a scarlet "brain" and with nikon and canon lens adaptors, you won't even have to sell your lenses.
is this the end of photography as we know it? it's been a day i've been looking forward to for a long time!! NO MORE UGRADES...........WOOOOWWW!!!
every other camera manufacturer in the world must be wondering where the future lies.

Hiya Mark. I've got a feeling that I won't be happy diving in at entry level, so my eventual investment will probably be a bit more than 2.5K...
The end as we know it? Yep, probably. You've gotta be a two trick pony to survive in the future me thinks. Exciting times tho'. HD super slo-mo plus hi-res stills, the creative possibilities are really exciting.
I'm gonna need a bigger computer!

hi andrew, yes just looked again, the canon/nikon fit possibilities arent available on the first two models, but even then at 7000 US it's not too bad.
doing underwater in both stills and video, each time i look at an upgrade i have to get two cams and two seperate housings, no housings ever fit even slight model changes, so lets see......um....one D3 @ over £3000 one sony EX whatever at over 3K and then over 3K on a housing for each....that's 12 grand on kit that will be out of date in a years time.....
or.....oh yeah a scarlet and a housing that i can keep for a LOT of years that will do both media to an exceptional quality...and only need to change the sensor when an upgrade comes. LORDY LORD!!! take my money mister red!!

Well, it won't be long before 35mm dSLRs have run out of room for more pixels. and Sony and Panny plastic-fantastics are out of date before you've shot 30secs of video - irrespective of chip size or format.
Sooooo - theoretically, we might well have to turn to something along these lines in the next few years if we want to stay at the front of the IQ/file size game.
I'm sure Messrs. Wylie and Clapp would give good homes to a couple of 617 Monstros (though that WA lens is going to have to have on hell of an image circle ).
The only problem - and it's a pretty insurmountable one - is lenses. Once you jump up above 35mm format there's no lenses that are equal in mag to even a 300mm. The insurmountable bit of the problem would be the physical construction of larger format lenses to replace our 500mm+ super teles.
Constructing the focal lengths would be bad enough, but to give us the working maximum apertures as well would make lenses so heavy you couldn't carry the damn things
And the costs.....agghh
So lord only knows where PRACTICALITY will take us.
But Red have got one thing right - you've only got to look at the gear and you want it
God it's SEXY (or am I just a sad git )

hahhaa no comments on the old git part.....
also the other problem is going to be workflow...what sort of computer is going to process images from a 28K sensor??? it will need to be the size of those ninteen seventy comps that filled a whole room.
it will be interesting as to what price they will put on the entry fixed lense model, and what optical range it will cover. 12 - 400 mm??

Give it three years and you'll be able to pick one up in Jessops for £99.99, with a free 16TB memory card...
Unlikely, I know. Jessops won't be around that long

Andrew, would the £99.99 also include a free IR shutter release and a round trip ticket to Hemis National Park
Perhaps by then a family of Snow Leopards may have moved in under my garden shed - or is that just as unlikely??
