I made it back out for moonset/sunrise this month. My first go at it was last month which I wasn't fully satisfied with. This month I made a few adjustments (comp & exposure mainly) and the conditions were right.
Anyway 720px don't do these shots justice so here are the links to larger versions. Let me know if you have a preference.
Derek, I guess it is only based upon my own preference here, but oddly, I like the one a bit better without the wave action, the second on the list. I guess it is the calmness with the moon in the BG that makes it so appealing to me. I do like seeing them all at the XL option at the smugmug site. On my monitor most of them do appear a bit dark in the FG rock areas though, not sure if you tried any D&B on those areas at all.

Paul,
Thanks for the feedback. The second shot was actually my first shot in almost complete darkness. The exposure was a little longer which minimized the wave action. While I exposed it more than the eye could see I am still trying to portrait a night scene or pre-dawn as in the others.
When trying to create a certain mood like this it is always a challenge to show the scene without loosing the feel or mood. On my new home LCD and work monitor LCD (also new) I can see detail and color variation in all the foreground rocks. That is what I was after. I did some slight lighting with almost all of them while still trying to maintain the mood of night. But on different monitors they will appear a little darker or lighter.

Derek,
Nice image. I like the first link the best because of the motion of the water. It just seems to have a nice balance and flow to it. I also like the small bit of reflection in the water from the setting moon. But actually, I like the second one too for the reasons Paul mentioned and the reflected light from the moon is good there too.

Great action though you could probably pull some more detail and contrast out of this.

Nice... I like the fg water motion of the image first linked to and the patterns of the distant waves in the posted image. A blend of those images might be worth playing with too (if you're open to that stuff). Nice work!
