Redshank Tringa totanus close-up, Canon EOS 1Ds MkIII 600m f4 IS, 1.4X 12 & 25mm extension tubes, grippa beanbag on a display turntable at ground level.

1/320th, f10, iso 400, converted DPP, post processed with CS3. cropped slightly to lose extension tube vignetting.

I like the position of the eye and tip of the beak giving just enough room for my eyes to absorb the rest of the image. Shots like this aren't normally my cup of tea, but this one is very striking and very nice.
Good idea with the extension tubes too.

Nigel, superb detail but for me it is just too big in the frame. Well exposed and excellent sharpness.

I would like to know how you got so close - they are normally first species up in my area. Great portrait.

David, I was well concealed and the Redshank came close to me!
