Autumn in the Tumwater
Coming off the worst creative funk ever, I hadn’t been out in months until two weeks ago when this was shot.

It’s the Wenatchee River in the mouth of Tumwater Canyon, just before it empties into the broad Leavenworth valley.

I played around with TK’s luminosity masks a bit – my first time – to tease out shadow detail from the trees on the left. It sure felt strange to use ACR and PS after such a long time away.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Nice sweeping view, you put us right in the river from your viewpoint which i like.

Talk about a good way to break out of a funk!

Been a long time ...too long but what a way to come back! This is a very nice image Marc. Can't wait to see more.

Really nice Marc, welcome out of the funk. I agree with Jesse, I'd crop off both the left and bottom to leave a more diagonal flow. The light in the rest of the photo is what makes it special; I'd concentrate the eye on that.

Marc,
Glad to have you back. Very nice "in your face" image. I love those lit up trees on the river bank.

Sweet image, Marc. The light on the trees on the right is so "just right". My suggestion (which you can take with a grain of salt) is to crop from bottom to below the rocks at center right, giving a pano perspective that seems well balanced to me.

Marc,

I've never been really into "river" shots, but work like this could change it. I love this image! Great capture!

BTW, do you live in the Seattle area?

Kosta:

Nope, I live right in Leavenworth. Margareta and I just moved from the Wenatchee area this summer.

To get to this view you simply park on the first big turnout in Tumwater Canyon past the Heidel Burger and climb down the rip-rap to waters edge. A lot of tourists stop there to snap pictures but I don't know how many get down to the river at sunrise.

Feels like I'm there. Nice job with the details here, Marc, especially for a long time off. Like the SS choice for the water.

Hey Marc, nice job. Great sense of being in the middle of the river.

Marc,

Thanks for the info! I'll have to check it out. The shot looks like you put on your waders and plunked your tripod in the middle of the river!

I sure love your neck of the woods in October!
