This came up when we first started doing this fall photo contest years ago, and I'd like to address it again this year. I don't think there's been an official rule on this one way or the other, but there should be. Namely, it is my opinion that you should NOT vote for your own photos. Otherwise, each person who submitted would simply vote for his or her own photos, thus diluting a true, non-partisan opinion on the merits of every photo submitted. If you submitted photos, then it's obvious that you, as the photographer, like the photos. If you just can't bring yourself to vote for someone else's photos, there is the option of not voting at all.
I'm pretty sure that in the past few contests you couldn't vote for your own....but I really don't remember... in any case I'm with you Todd.

I thought that was the adopted standard - if not then then I certainly agree.

No argument here. Seems obvious to me.

Although there is nothing that would prevent you from voting for your own photo (other than common sense), when I was managing the contest, there weren't any instances of someone voting or trying to vote for themselves.
But... if you do vote for yourself, there's no sense dinkin' around about it - go all the way and give your image all 3 votes.

Yes, no one is allowed for vote for his/her own images. This rule was in place last year. Any such vote will not count.
Here are the voting rules:
• To vote, you must be an RMNP participant as of Oct 1, 2008. You must supply your name and email address.
• Your 1st place vote will be awarded 3 points. Your 2nd place vote will be awarded 2 points. Your 3rd place vote will be awarded 1 point. The three images with the highest point totals win!
• You may not vote for the same image more than once.
• You may not vote for your own images.
• You may vote only once. All votes are final. You may not change your vote once it is submitted.
• One photographer may not win multiple awards.
• The deadline for submitting your vote is 6:00pm Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Votes submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. Winners will be announced on Thursday, November 27, 2008

I have an opinion that might be less popular--i think we should add a rule that the photo not be previously posted at NPN. I can already identify several of the photographers by their previously posted shots. While this wont affect my voting any, it defeats the reason for using anonymous posts. It also means the poster had the advantage of receiving critique from the same people who are voting here, and know in advance how popular the shot is among the voters based on the comments received. that's a bit unfair-JMHO.

Stan, I think you're being picky. You can't change horses in mid-stream. Set up that rule for next year if you can get folks to buy into your idea.
