I'll be going to Cades Cove this Wed,19th. to hopefully shoot deer in rut. I've previously gone the 1st week of Dec and had good shooting these times, but this year I will have to go earlier due to family committments. Has anyone been there this time of year before, and how was the deer photography? Thanks, Ray Dove

Ray - You should be good. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and there was alot of activity. Bears are fattening up to.If you are going to be in the area anyway, try to schedule a stop in Cataloochee Valley for the Elk. They are really bugleing right now.-SandyLee

Thanks Sandy for the info. It would be great to see bear on this trip.'ve seen bear there but always in spring.I was in RMNP this oct and saw all the elk I could possibly want to see, so I'll probably not make Calaloochee this trip, but thanks for tip. Have a good'un. Ray

Ray

I was there all last week. The bucks were ready but the does were not. I only saw a couple of chases but the buck were really checking out the does. This week should be great. Watch the fields at the Cable Mill area. There is a really nice 10 pointer there most every day. There is another really nice buck hanging out right behind the barn at the tipton place.

The fields on the far end of Hyatt were really hot with bucks last week. Check these fields out early.

Turkeys were all along the back sided from the Nature trail to the Tipton Place

I also saw a huge bear. He looked like a cartoon character he was so fat. Didn't get any clear shots but really enjoyed seeing him.

Good luck

Thanks, Paul, I saw the nice 10 pointer near the mill and a nice 8 point in the fields off Hyatt lane. I too don't believe the does are ready yet as the 8 point tried with a doe but was rejected. I missed the bear, thiugh a lady said she saw 3 babies near the entrance, probably yearlings and she didn;t mention mother. Thanks to all who replied, Ray
