Guadalupe Mountains fall color
Spent a few days in early November out in Guadalupe Mountains National Park in search of fall color. One normally does not think of west Texas as being a fall color location but the Guadalupes have maples hidden in deep canyons. They put on some of the most vivid color I have ever seen this side of Vermont.

This year there was some good color but the high winds were taking it down as fast as it could turn. The severe clear skies did not help much either. So it was a good trip for getting away but not a great year fall color photography-wise.

Here is one image from McKittrick Canyon. Just a scene setting image that gives you a glimpse of the canyon and a hint of color. On the right day you would be walking under a scarlet roof of maple leaves.

Nice capture of the color from an unexpected place.. Sounds like a good time for everything but photography.

Maples do find a way to inhabit microclimates like those canyons. If you are ever in Western Oklahoma check out Red Rock Canyon in Caddo County. It is an interesting microclimate out in the midst of the prairie, with lots of maples.

Nice composition with an exceptional number of elements. I like how the trees on either side frame the image, and the placement of the yucas are a nice addition.

Nice use of framing with the trees on either side framing the colorful tree in the background. Looks like a great place to visit anytime of the year.
