Ghost reindeer of the Cairngorms.

Hi John

Quite different - I like your view point. The composition doesn't sit well with me and I appreciate this is to accommodate the OOF FG animal. I do feel there is a lot of potential with what you are doing but this image doesn't quite work for me!

Hi John I am afraid I have to agree with David's comments. Any chance of putting in what Lens you used and settings? :toast:

Thanks chaps - interesting comments - keep them coming - dont have to worry about being "afraid" John - criticism is good, welcome and valuable!

Can someone please tell me what the white stuff is? Not sure on this one John. Although the oof white animal in the front didn't draw my eye in the first instance once I knew it was there I seemed to get drawn back to it for some reason. I like the eye contact and intensity of the other two animals. Have you considered a square crop on the end of the nose of the oof animal? Also it may be my screen or image compression but am not sure on the sharpness of the image.

RHS animal is slighty soft - movement - it was coming in to wrestle with the static left animal, which is very sharp.

John, this is a little like that optical illusion of the "candlestick or the two faces" and I find my attention being switched between the main subjects and the OOF animal in the foreground. That said I like the suggestion of a square crop. Cliff

Surely the person who suggested cropping out the sheep was joking?! The almost ghostly sheep that seems to be looking on knowingly is what makes the shot. This one really made me chuckle. Good eye to spot this juxtaposition. Love it!

Jeremy - if you can see a sheep in there can I have some of what you're smoking please!

I tease - its an easy mistake to make - its actually a juvenile reindeer.

Regarding the crop to square - took several of the two animals head-to-head without the youngster, but preferred this slightly offbeat version.

Re the baiting/stalking discussions of recent posts - there was some serious stalking done to get these reindeer - I had to sneak away from them to get some distance with the 300!

Although they were at 2500 feet in the Cairngorms and a mile from the road, they were intent on inspecting the inside of my jacket pocket for snacks! You'd be flat on your stomach lining up a shot and the next thing you know you've got a reindeer nose up your bottom. Ok if you like that sort of thing!

Couldn't you just clone the sheep out !!! :jump:

Don't wanna start that one..... gain !

I actually quite like it, personally I don't find myself going straight to the oof sheep, in a way it's quite nice as the angle of the reindeer's neck corresponds well !

sorry, but I just like it .... ok !!

Do you look like Santa Claus John?... Where you wearing a red coat or something?

Different, but the foreground reindeer is a bit too distracting - the eye keeps roaming around the image trying to settle on a part of it...but can't because of the foreground animal.

Hi John,
There's no red nose! :jump: Is this Comet?

I'm not sure about the composition as I've never really been a fan of close-ups myself! I prefer seeing the whole animal rather than head shots! But thats just me!

Not having the oof deer on the left would make this image so much better! I would love some snow!
