Recently I went to an art gallery and one of the featured artists had a few face mounted photos behind acrylic. The look of it was incredible, with gobs of depth and detail. I asked the director of the gallery about the tecnique, but she wasn't much help. So since then I have been researching a bit trying to A: find a place that will do this for me at a price that a mortal fella such as myself can afford, and B: Trying to figure out how to do it myself.
Now, I've found a few places that provide the sevice, reasonably, and will likely contact them for more info. I have also found some roller laminators that are in my price range. The big kicker is that optically clear two-sided adhesive is incredibly expensive. The cheapest I have found is a roll 25" wide by 150' long @ $350. 25" wide is plenty for me, but 150 feet is overkill, especially since i just want to test it out.
Does anyone have experience either outsourcing it to pros, or doing it yourself? I'm a pretty crafty guy, and I think I could pull it off, if I can find reasonable materials. Comments on real world experience would be much appreciated. thanks.

I looked into it at one time when I was going to have a print done this way on Epson premium luster and was told by the lab you need to start with a print on glossy not luster-something to keep in mind.
