My wife loves this but after seeing so many coastal sunrises on NPN, I've very wary of posting anything.

So tell me the truth. Is this any good?

This was taken on the Mendocino Headlands.

4x5 150mm Astia, 3 Stop Grad

Yes Dan, it is good  The sunlight just kissing the ridges in the background and the seawater making a swirl on the foreground rocks is enhancing the visual effect.

Dan, I like this one,too.
Subtle movement against calm.
nice color pallet. It puts me in the scene.
Thanks!

Dan,

The composition is nice, the movement in the water is an added plus for sure. But the sky seems too dark for the light in the water and the shadows are avery dark as well. I don't know if the tranny is this dark or its just the scan. Worth working on.

Dan, I really like the composition, overall look, and sky color. I just wish more detail could be brought out in the shadows, although internet viewing is not always easy to see in those areas at times. Looks good to me otherwise, Dan.

Dan, not sure about the whole image, I really like the top 1/3rd down to about the water line below the bluff, love the background sky.

I like the overall simplicity and calming effect of this one, but I wouldn't mind if it was brightened just a bit. This web presentation seems a bit dark to me. Other than that, I can see why your wife would like this one.

I would have to agree with the others on the lightening portions of the scene. There are some fuzzy parts on the land that I hope are just part of the rough draft. Wouldn't mind seeing the finished product.

Dan,
Very pleasing composition. The colors are subtle, but look ok to my eye. Best Regards.

Dan,

I like this scene. The movement on the water is nice as are the overall colors. It is a very serene kind of seascape. This reminds me of some of my mood seascapes, like the ones I shoot predawn.

While upping the exposure might bring out more color you may lose the mood you are trying to convey. Hmm... Maybe a little as suggested would be worth a try just to see what it looks like. You can always fall back to the original if it loses its appeal.

Dan,

I wouldn't call this anything like the same old coastal sunrises.... I think the movement of the kelp? in the water makes this different as does the coloration in the sky. It's almost like there is some remnant of the smoke in the air to give those colors, The only nit I have is the dark shadows on the rocks and bluff, they're a bit heavy. I'm surprised at the shadows considering you used Astia, but then there's the scanning and processing steps as well.

I can see why your wife really likes this. I like it too.
