Been away too long.
D700, 500mm + 1.4Xtc at f6.3 ISO 1600 1/40s
Reed bunting at my feeding station.

Having been off the road since the accident its felt weird not being able to go out and about with my gear. Well i have a new car and felt in the right frame of mind and got up at 6, to a blanket of white!

Sadly by 6:30 the rain had washed the snow away, but it was nice while it lasted.

First pictures i've taken in two months!

Hi Paul

I like the setting even though the BG is a little busy and your crop works quite well!

Hi Paul,

Although the background is a little bit busy, still a very nice setting and lovely pose.

Yes, the composition to keep the whole seed heads works for me too. Pose doesn't look too comfortable though!

For me there are two excellent shots here.

The first is as shown, which I think is a superb pictorial shot, which good commercial potential.

The second is from a N.H. perspective, which would involve cropping closer in to the Reed Bunting, in order to give more emphasis on to the bird.

As shown, but viewing it as a N.H. shot then I think you have an excellent shot showing the bunting superbly in its habitat.

Nits mentioned. I like the feel of the image with the cooler muted colours conveying the winter season.

Thanks, all, I'm fine, mainly a knock to confidance and a new car, but all working fine.

I understand about it being a busy background, but i wanted to convey the nature of the beast, i've always noticed Reed buntings to be much more shy than many of the other birds you see at the feeders.

Fantastic shot! I love the way he appears to be parting the stems just to see what that fellow with the camera is up to!
