Light and Shadow
Taken from Hawksbill Crag yesterday afternoon after visiting the Buffalo River Gallery. There were some great prints on the walls of that gallery!

I was there with 6 other camera club members, and all really enjoyed the visit to both the gallery and the bluff above Whitaker Creek (I think one of them even came away with a huge print!).

Bill Dark was in the gallery when we arrived (no doubt trying to steel Tim Ernst's canvas wrapping secrets! ). It was great to visit with you Bill - sorry I didn't get to say goodbye!

It was great to visit with Tom Kennon too - we met him on the road as he was driving out. Nice to see you Tom.

All in all, a very nice day!

Nice capture Tim. We will probably go down for the one Dec. 6th.

Nice take on the late afternoon, Tim. It was nice seeing the great work in Tim's gallery and all the other folks that we there.

Did you happen to see the three Trumpeter Swans ( at least that is what they looked like) at the Boxley Pond? They had some type of green tag around there neck and were very near the road. I guess they had been dropped off by Fish and Game? Maybe Tim E, will give us some type of update.

Tim: Really well seen. I especially like the tiny splashes of color in the otherwise monochrome scene. 2 thumbs up. >=))>

Hey Tom, where have you been? Those are the "zoo" swans that the Iowa Trumpeter Swan Society released in January - after the wild swans had already leaf. The zoo swans hung around for a couple of months and then left, but then returned to the Mill Pond during the summer - very odd, but since they are zoo swans, their habits are not like wild swans so who knows. The wild swans normally return to Boxley sometime around Christmas day, so we're hoping they will return again this year to join the zoo swans. The green tags were placed there to give photographers a little extra photoshop practice! I think tourists have been feeding them since they do tend to come hang out next to, or even ON the road.

By the way, the same group also released 13 zoo swans at Holla Bend at the same time - at last check they had not returned yet.

The big group of wild swans at Magness lake should have already arrived for the winter, although I have not heard if they are there yet or not.

I thought the Swans returned sometime in December and had not noticed the other ones on my recent visits. I was a little concerned about the way they were hanging out on the roadside. Thanks for the correct information, Tim.

I too like the splashes of color in this nearly b/w scene. Nicely seen Tim.

Hey Tim, I like that look with the light in the tops of the trees. I like the contrast and lighting. Hawksbill Crag gives a cool view year around. Nice capture.

Hey Tim, Nice study in light and shadow with the texture of the trees and a little color to add interest. I like it.

Nice image Tim. The uncommon vantage point makes for an interesting image. I really like how the sunlit treetops pop against the shadowy background. Makes we want to be there.

Didn't I hear you say just before leaving Tim's that "it's a great day for a hike, but not for pictures..."? Well, looks like it was OK to me! Beautiful detail in the trees, and the afternoon light was spectacular! Nice work Tim, and it was good to see you and Mary again too. BTW, I'm still trying to learn how to stretch my own canvas...maybe an idea for a new workshop, eh Tim?
