Hello all!

Had a day off today and was determined to see the seals despite the weather. (I got sandblasted... ) Still, glad I went as it was great to see them.

Techs: Nikon D200, 500mm lens.
1/250 at F8
ISO 200
Sand
Tripod
More sand

PP in CS4, levels, cropped a bit off the left for composition, sharpened (highpass then usm)

C and C welcome!! :wavey:

I really like this intimate moment. Exposure and sharpness are spot on Dawn but i think the image could be a bit stronger:

By going in on eye level from the front and maybe more closing in with your lens on the heads of the mother and pup.

Thats nice ! The seal stuff has got to be different these days ! Facial expression on the female is great. More space on the right might have helped but can't be choosey !
Good stuff.

Some people do find it difficult to get down at eye level. Its not the getting down its the getting up thats a problem for me.
It would have created a different slant on the angle but the parental moment has been well caught. :toast:

Thanks for your comments! I'm glad you mention the pov, it is my preference to shoot from low down, but in this case I couldn't. That would have involved me sinking through a sand dune.... I didn't want to move forwards or down the dune as pups were being born all around (an amazing sight) and I definately didn't want to disturb them.

Thanks Major, you should have seen me attemping to get out of a ditch I slithered into at the weekend... (erm, no alchohol involved, just some heavy camera gear....)

Sweet interaction caught here Dawn!

I think its true when most people say the DNook shots have to be very different to mean anything, but that only really applies to other wildlife photographers critiquing each others images!. Most non-photographic people would really like this shot, its very sweet and intimate.

A lovely moment and I like the textures through this shot in the sand and furs

very nice Dawn, agree that a slight crop at the top might help.
