Busy backdrop
Nuthatch and a waterfall !
There's often a mention of "busy" backgrounds. Now this is what I call "busy "
Its the water feed to my pool in the recent heavy rain sessions. Gets a little heavy at times, but at least it washes the leaves away !
Slow shutter to blurr the water -

Lovely, and great technique too. The blurred water looks great with the super sharp bird. I don't think I've ever seen a nuthatch sit still for 1/30th sec!! So much detail in there too.

Great capture! :toast:

Lovely setting. Next time, ask him to turn round and sit in the bottom left facing the waterfall

Very interesting shot John. You're clearly a master of these sorts of shot, especially going against the grain and always having more a top down view of the subject, as opposed to being very low down.

Thanks all.
Interesting point Tim- again the Low Point of View debate. In this case any lower and I would have got the outlet pipe in as well . :frown:

Never seen a nuthatch like this and it works a treat. The wet feathers almost look metallic and you managed to balance the shutter speed to create the effect and keep the nuthatch sharp. Good stuff again

Hi John
I don't mind the perspective on this one any lower and you would lose most of the water, no nits from me I like it as is. :toast:

Do you do field trips to your garden and pools?

Even this is really a busy background and even the BG has nearly the same color than the main object, the bird stands out nearly 3-dimensional.
Very sharp and cracking shot John.

What a combination, John! It takes an original like yourself even to think that such a shot is possible! Are you sure you don't have a stuffed Nuthatch that you just position in photogenic locations?

Thanks everyone ! To be honest I didn't think this would go down too well. The bird seemed a little harsh, and I thought the background overtook the general shot. Anyway glad you liked it. I must have twenty species done on the same branch with the same waterfall !!
I,ve just done a count and it seems like I have 1023 nuthatch pictures on file. (Not all at pool)
Its one of the few birds which is almost certain to come to the pool.
Any way thanks again
Appreciated.
