Yakima Peak at sunrise from Ckinook Pass. It was this very morning that inspired me to want to take photography to the next level. This scene was completly enveloped in fog literally 10 seconds later!

Ya know, this certainly ain't bad. It ain't fully awesome either but it's very good. The comp in good and it seems to have a mood to me.

Thanks for commenting, Mark. I know this sounds cliche, but no photo could compare to the actual experience of witnessing it first hand!

I know, if you were out backpacking, sitting in camp and saw this happen, you'd just sit back and think, "yeah, life is good".

Actually, I got my lazy a** up at 3:30 in the morning (surprised myself) to drive to the pass to see the sunrise over Tipsoo Lakes. I was a bit cranky until I saw the first pre-dawn light strike the Emmons glacier. All of a sudden, life was good! (as well as that dark roast Sumatran I had in my thermos!)

Wow...I've taken many photos of Yakima Peak, but could never quite get an image that had that certain "something," even when getting up at 3:30 (or earlier). You got what I'd been hoping for.
I'm surprised the road to Chinook is still open. What are the conditions on the ground at Tipsoo?

Joseph,
You could of made more points with Mark if you indicated that it was Hood River coffee in your thermos.

James, I'm not sure if it's still open. I'm guessing it's closed by now. I actually took this shot in late August of '06 (hence the getting up at 3:30 part!) This was almost a grab shot, just happened to catch it before the fog completely rolled in.

I'll remember that next time, Jim!

This is the shot I have been trying to get all week in Leavenworth, where we've had morning fog.

I dig this one... nice image! However... I'd really like to see more than just a big black blotch where those trees are on the right bottom third of the image.

I also wish there was more detail there as well, Rick. The combination of fog and shadow rendered it as a blotch. The limitations of my point & shoot, I guess! There is some detail if you look close, maybe I'll try and see if I can bring that out.

August 2006, eh? Ironically, that was about the same time I was last trying to photograph Yakima Peak. Looks like I picked the wrong morning to get up early...
