Fieldfare
Through the room window again. Prompted by the recent snow which some of you had in places and the arrival of some of the winter Thrushes over here, I raked out this pic from last year , which is still one of my all time favourites.
In reference to the other bits in the pic, a nice screw is always a welcome addition to any days events .
Spent most of today buiding a scaffold hide for Redwings on holly berries. Hope it works
Cheers

My only comment, as anticipated, (and this would be for publication) would be the obvious inclusion was removed to give more prominence and less competition to the main subject.

Thanks Tom
I,ve just noticed also that the bird looks a little over sharpened. I think I,ve uploaded the wrong one. Working on it.
Cheers
John
Beautiful soft lighting John giving impressive detail in the bird. If it were mine I'd have that pipe out a bit sharpish but I'm not going to start that debate off again so if you want a screw in it mate .. you have it!
Lovely image.

hell fire john, thats a nice shot
Snow on its head and blurred snow in the background take this image over the top!
As my personal taste goes, i'm not a big fan of small birds on perches, but you really have got it down to a fine art and it works wonderfully..

Hi John,
Original was very good, re-post is stunning and IMO one of the best you have ever posted and you have posted some corkers !!
Great work

Fabulous John. What a setting and you can't get much better I reckon. I am however against the norm it would seem as i still think it's a little oversharpened. Just between the eye and the beak/bill, just looks a bit crunchy .nothing a bit of holding back won't cure Just my opinion and bad eyesight John

John, this is one of your best ever. I don't normally think birds have expressive faces, but somehow the expression on this individual's face says a lot about the conditions!

Simply stunning John, very well worked and the re-post is just as good. All the detail is exactly where it should be and the colour, DOF etc.. has all been executed expertly.. Very nice indeed..
Brett.

Really nice John. The bolt didnt bother at all. The sharpening now looks spot on.

Hi John,
I don't usually post anymore, but still look in most days and have to say what a fantastic collection of images you seem to have - this one of the best imo - beautiful shot!

Hi John the repost is terrific and getting the snow on the Bird's head is phenomenal. You certainly have a cracking view from your window.

Fantastic photo John. I also prefer the screwless version.

Excellent!! Beautiful shot, falling snow, colours, pose, all fantastic. Is it me or does he/she have a blue eye? Is that normal or unusual? The bird in my one and only fieldfare photo seems to have a dark/brown/amber eye...weird...
An absolutely stunning shot!!!

Best image so far John, I like it allot I think I prefer the second.
Excellent, can't add much more to the accolades this image justly deserves...

stunning image this, can only reiterate the above comments

Thanks again every one.
Dawn - I'll have a look at some of my others from a different session. It could be that white wall of the house doing funny light reflecting things again (it's only 7 foot away) but that wouldn't make it blue .
Cheers

EDIT Dawn - sussed it ! All the ones I have done in, or on snow have the blue tinge when you look really closely. All my others in trees and on the ground etc have brown ! So there you are !
Cheers

Fantastic shot John, with or without screw.

Can well see why this might be one of your favourites John - a cracker.
Posted by Danny Green on November 26, 2008 at 1:46 PM
I looked at this image a while back but had to do some work I really liked the original shot and didn't even notice the bolt because I just make a reaction to an image if I like it first time I like it and never even notice something trival like the bolt. I like the second one as well but I really don't think it needed doing to enhance an already cracking image. You produce some amazing stuff John I hope I will still be this active when I am in my Seventies.

Ah-ha! Thanks John. What a strange effect, I guess it must be something to do with the snow reflecting the light... Shame, I thought you'd discovered a rare blue eyed Fieldfare...
If I get a Fieldfare shot a tenth as good as yours I will be well chuffed...
Posted by John Robinson on November 26, 2008 at 1:53 PM
Thanks both.
Danny- the bolt is part of the old electric pole. The bolt held the white pot insulator. The other is hidden behind the post. I,ve got really attatched to it over the years.

All the elements compliment each other..........snow/winter thrush etc, and the birds position and composition work perfectly for me.
I like the original, and feel the repost would work equally well as-is, or cropped to portrait.
