Crested Tit
I just love to make Autumnal pictures. It's my favorit season of the year and love to do these birdies and squirrels. We are fortunate to have a good number of Crested Tits in Holland and it's always nice to see them again in winter time.

Edwin,Technically cant fault this image it is excellent but as an image it just doesnt work for me.Crested tits live and feed in trees not on the ground... and i do find the o.o.f leaves (in this case) a bit distracting.I just had another look and feel it looks better if you take off a bit from the bottom, makes the leaves less dominant. The autumn feel of the image and the colors are very nice.

Hi Edwin
Pic of a bird I would love to photograph.
To be honest it doesn't quite convey the idea of what one of these should look like. I may be wrong- I often am ! The head seems a little soft too.
Cheers

Hello Rene,

Thanks for the critiques. Crested Tit do feed on the ground. Not very often but when there are lots of beech nuts they feed on these. You can see a lot of Crested Tits on the road when cars have crushed the nuts on the asfalt. I agree they are most happy hight up the trees but they do come down. Especially when you encourage them with some treats:)

absolutely brilliant image, the pose is great, perhaps the foreground could be slightly more diffused but other than that lovely, especially that eye

a lovely looking bird and one I'd love to photograph. The colours are great. The OOF area is perhaps a bit dominant but not a major problem IMO.

Edwin, fantastic shot, i think it is good to have something different and i am sure they feed on the ground if there is food there, not all pics have to be BOAS's i am considering other setups myself at the moment which show different behavior. Thanks for sharing, ive never actually seen a crested tit, where abouts did you photograph him?

Forgive my ignorance...what are BOAS????

Great colours here, love the overall feel. I find it difficult to fault. I *think* I agree with the comments regarding a little off the bottom, but I also like the colours so not sure.

crest and eye contact top it off!

Very nice!

Nice one Edwin, great colors and low angle.

I agree we normally see them in pine trees, but I happen to have taken a similar shot last weekend. I could post it to prove they indeed feed on the ground. When they do, they mostly do that very inconspiciously under a tree and not often out in the open.

Hi Ed,

Lovely pose, lovely setting and lovely colours - late autumns are giving us some winter species in new settings this year that's for sure.

Very nice picture, Edwin. Lovely pose and setting, although I echo the comment that the OOF area is perhaps a bit too dominant

Lovely shot with great colours. I would tend to agree with a bit off the bottom for web presentation, but the compostition is just right for a cover as it is!

I'm quite certain that all the details about ground feeding CT's are correct but on personal tastes alone this doesn't quite do it for me. I think the foreground leaves are overpowering what seems to me to be a delicate bird.

Nice autumnal colours and pose from the bird, I do, however find the OOF foreground to be overpowering a delicate bird and would prefer to see more of the feet perhaps.
