New Day
Icon alert... This was taken a few minutes before my last post, just as the sun's first rays struck the Mountain. This shot actually got 'picture of the day' on Webshots (although I think a lot of the folks over there are pretty easily impressed, LOL!)
Just one of those perfect days where it all came together.
Thanks for looking,
Joe

That's an understatement.

I like it. The mist on the water is a nice touch. The image seems a tad pixelated or low resolution on my monitor, but a minor point. Nice control of the highlights here. An icon that I've seen many times, just about every way you can think of, but it is so for good reason.
You might try hiking up into the Tatoosh range to the west and NE of Pinnacle peak. Some nice tarns up there with interesting reflections later in the season.

Thanks for the compliment, Marc, much appreciated! It probably looks pixelated because it was taken with a Fuji F30 point and shoot. I was hoping to have a decent DSLR by now, but my budget doesn't permit that at the moment. Hopefully that'll happen in the coming year.
I regret that I didn't get into photography a long time ago. Your'e living the life I should have lived, LOL! I've got a lot of catching up to do, but I guess it's never too late. Hopefully I'll one day be able to approach the level of craftmanship that you and others on this site display. You've all been an inspiration!
Thanks for the tip about the Tatoosh Range. I've been wanting to explore that area more. I'm just happy to finally live in the PNW, been wanting to for years!

Regards, Joe

Beautiful reflection image, Joe. Perfect timing and exposure. The sky, and it's reflection, is pretty grainy; should be a fairly easy fix.

Thanks, Marc. I only have Elements 2 to edit with. Do you know what tool I would need to use to reduce that noise?

Joe, what a great statement. You turned out this excellent image without four grand in body/lens/software!

See if Elements 2 has noise reduction on the filter menu and give it a slight whack.

P&S, Elements 2... love it.

Yes, there's a bit of noise Jesse, I'll see what I can do to reduce that.
Yep, just a point and shoot, Paul. Actually, my computer tech friend at UCLA said he would send me a copy of CS4. Hopefully his lazy a** will get around to it before the close of the decade! As far as cameras, I'm hoping to be able to squeeze an XSI out of my tax return. That should hold me for a while, and then I'll concentrate on upgrading to better glass as funds allow. Then I can start dreaming of a 5D mk II, LOL!
In the mean time, I won't let lack of equipment stop me from trying to make inspired images. Living in a place like this, how could one not be inspired? I try to look at it from the perspective of honing my compositional skills now, so when I do upgrade, I'll at least have that aspect down. Looking forward to being part of the forum.

You know how the old saying goes, telling a photographer he/she must have a great camera is like telling a writer that he/she must have a great pen. Nice reflection, the mist adds as noted.

For noise reduction, there are a lot of options. I reduce noise mostly by blending different exposures these days, but for my point and shoot I have been real happy with Neat Image.

Thanks for the suggestion, John. I tried the noise filter in Elements, but as I feared, the reduction in noise came at the expense of losing too much detail. I'll check out Neat Image.
Noise Ninja is downloadable, but they watermark your photos unless you purchase the program. Free isn't always good, eh?

This shot reminds me of Mt. Hood s Trillium Lake shots. Been shot thousands of times most of them look similar. don't get me wrong because it's a nice image, just not original.

So right, Joseph! All the elements came together for you for a beautiful shot. Gorgeous, indeed, and an iconic image I'd settle for in a minute. What makes it original is that that particular look in a moment in time only you were there to capture.

Nowhere close to original, I agree. Just loved the the way all the elements (light and fog) as well as the absolute quiet and stillness came together to create a perfect moment. Obviously it means more to me on a personal level because I was there, hopefully I was able to convey a bit of that feeling in this image.
Regards to all, Joe
