Has anyone used Ryan air? I am flying with them in January but their lugagge restrictions are out of this world (just 1 bag on-board). Would appreciate any experiences as i can still change it to a BA flight.

many thanks

Hi Rene
They are cheap but don't expect any degree of service if you encounter a problem - I found them to be very inflexible and unhelpful recently. They also make the most of the opportunity of having a captive audience - "sell, sell, sell" is the staff mantra during the flight.
Cheers,
Chris

I use them all the time, ive never had any problems. The prices are unmatcheable, for example, London to Madrid Ryanair, £16 including taxes, BA same day, £224. So, if money is no object, ok, BA every time, but i think a saving of £208 one way is significant enough for me not to worry about anyone trying to sell me a coffee for £2 on a flight lasting 2 hours,

Well the fare to Sweden with Ryan air worked out at £100, the cost for the fair with BA worked out at £120, so the differnece isnt too big And i can take my laptop and Thinktank case on board without any hassle! On top of that as i live in hampton....i can stay in bed a bit longer as well before catching my flight to Stockholm! thanks for your help guys!

They are tossers, and they care not a whit for their customers in my experience. Their environmental footprint is elephantine. I used them once, they could not take off because they had no emergency oxygen for the pilot, and had to fly a spare bottle over from Dublin! While we sat for several hours on the tarmac wating for the flying bottle I missed all my onwards connections as a result and it cost a fortune to remedy. Ryanair didnt care, and refused to explain how they managed to get the plane into Prestwick without oxygen in the first place although their faces did go red at the question, but they basically told me to clear off.

Hi rene,

If you have a sense of adventure you should go with Ryan Air - you'll never know for sure just where (or when) your plane will land

I use Ryanair a lot, they are cheap and not very cheerfull, their destination airports are somewhat optomistically described, usually 15-20ks from the main cities.

You have to book well in advance to get the best deals but their add-ons now make savings quite small - booking fee, baggaage check-in fee, priority boarding fee etc etc. Their excess baggage charges are crippling and you lose 5kgs to the main carriers baggage limit, 15kgs per person instead of 20kgs. Expect to get stung if more than 2kgs over the baggage limit, but you can cheat this by booking in at last knockings when they are desperate to clear the queues, I once managed to get a BA baggage limit through when we missed our flight last year from M25 traffic problems - that was 13kgs over Ryanair limit for two of us

As long as you know what you are taking on and can plan accordingly they are not really any worse than anyone else. I would never consider using them for a late booking tho'

I travel lots (75 flights this year so far!)

I have flown Ryan Air twice and each time had problems, they have Zero customer service, if you want to change your flight times, name or complain you have to call a premium rate number!

If you are 1 gram over weight they will charge you. The first ever time in my life I ever had to pay excess baggage was with them, the fare was £100 and excess baggage ended up £250!

Good Luck!

You get what you pay for. BA / other airline prices are partly higher because of the frills and add-ons that you end up paying for with other carriers. There is a bottom line for the lowest amount a flight can cost to run after all. You wouldn't expect to get a turndown service and chocolate on your pillow in a £10 a night B&B in Blackpool, but would if you stayed at the Hilton. Buy what you need but know what the limitations are, I say
