Redwing by the Leeds Liverpool canal, Crossflatts, West Yorkshire, November08
Hi everyone. Got this the other day. Redwings have been plentiful so far this autumn.
The techs
20D 400mm x2 tele, tripod, iso 1600, F14 1/250th. MF as usual. Just half the frame. Cropped in lightroom and sharpened/denoised(Noiseware) in Photoshop CS4.

Very nice, typical Redwing image on those red berries. maybe a tiny bit tight on the left.

Lucky you, I have seen very few as yet - maybe they will come further south as the weather gets colder. This is a beautiful shot, as much for the rich redness of the berries as for the bird itself. My only nit - and it is a slight one - is that the top mandible of the beak blends into the branch behind. Having said that, I'd be dead chuffed if it were mine.

Very well captured there John, the berries are about over but still offer that deep rich colour don't they? Superb looking bird and the detail and light works well for me. Good descriptive shot.
I was in Glasgow recently and saw flocks (!!) of fieldfare and Waxwing, the only problem was they were all in tree about 40ft up..! Still it was a first sighting of a waxwing for me and to see a flocks of anything up 150-200 birds was really quite impressive..
