A local retailer has some deals on Vista 64 both Home Premium and Ultimate. My purpose in upgrading is for more memory in Photoshop and Lightroom.
Is there any advantage to Ultimate over Home Premium for photographic purposes?

I don't think there would be any difference between Home Premium and Ultimate for doing photo work. Ultimate has better security features than the other versions of Vista. My 2 cents: if you can afford Ultimate, get it.

Dave - I'm very happy with Vista Ultimate, 8GB memory. I can lug LR2 down a bit with a few hundred images, but it's still acceptable (I still remember the 'old days' , and CS4 flies - IM

I've run Ultimate on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems and its great! My 64-bit machine is working like lightening with LR v2 and PS CS4. I have 12GB RAM and it doesn't need it all (yet!).
I did have a laptop with Home Premium but prefer Ultimate as it has a few extras teatures such as more options for Back-Up, Security, etc...

One advantage of Ultimate: you don't need 2 licenses if you run both 32 and 64 bit OS. Of course, you need to have each OS on a different partition. With 32 bit OS, you can use your TWAIN driver and Nik products which currently don't support 64-bit.
