Little Grebe
Hi all,

This is a parent feeding it's young. It seemed to be catching the fish and then dropping it just in front of the juvenile to let it catch it.

Taken at the end of summer.

Thanks,

Canon 40D | 100-400mm @ 400mm | f/8, 1/400, ISO 400, Bean bag

I guess the major thing for me here, is the OOF reed/grass.

I would have been nice getting the young in the shot too but we can't have everything. Otherwise I really quite like it, nice bit of sunny warmth comes across nicely !

Nice colourful Grebe shot. One of my favourite birds too.I reckon if you darkened the big OOF area a bit it wouldn't show so much.
Just a thought.

Hi Rob

Really nice capture - the OOF FG vegitation doesn't bother me too much in this image!

Great colours, but the OOF reed is a problem for me (obviously just a matter of opinion though, reading above). Does it need a touch of rotation too? Fantastic detail with the stickleback, which is what really makes this stand out.

The grebe is just a little bit too central in the composition for my taste but a well captured shot

Lovely shot! I agree that it needs a little rotation too, and I do find the oof area a little distracting, but I think it could be darkened as mentioned to solve that. The detail is great with the water drops on the birds back and the fish is an added bonus! Nice capture!

Rob, Love the bird, colours, timing and the light but let down by the OOF greenery - all very natural I'm sure. Maybe that is the price you had to pay to capture this Grebe at the right moment......

I like the bird and setting very much but the oof green stuff is a bit distracting from the image.
Still a very good image

Hi Rob for me this would be a great shot, but the OOF reeds spoil it. :toast:

I agree with John above. Almost an excellent shot, but shame about the OOF reed.

Agree with the comments and do like the stickleback a lot. Wonder if cropping off the left hand side up to the OOF grass may help distract from it (along with darkening) as well as move the composition off-centre?
