If it's official then why isn't it publicised on the Nikon website?

For those in the Nikon Professional Network it is mentioned in the 12.08 edition of Nikon Pro - received mine this morning. Cliff

24.5MP sensor with all the same features as the D3 but only shoots at 5fps (although in crop mode can capture 10MP files at up to 7fps)

Will be interesting to see if they have managed to get the same low noise capabilities as the D3/D700 with such high MP.

Price tag will also be interesting . . .

$5500 approx according to Ken Rockwell - though quite how this will translate into sterling plus VAT is a matter for conjecture.

Can't quite get my head around how the APS-C crop ends up at 10Mb and not 12Mb - but I would hope the image is a bit more like that of the D2Xs than D3/300/700, if it isn't I'll think of it as a bit of a backward step.

I wonder if it'll have a manual mirror-up/silent mode like the 1DsIII - I damn well hope so.

Well it has more pixels but other than that i do not see many differences with the current D3....so i will not order mine.....for the time being

The ISO range is up to 6400 so its still the D3 for extreme ISO-No suprise there-it will all be down to price and as Nikon have just laid off 1500 workers it should be competetive to keep the cash flow flowing

The official worldwide announcement is on Monday (press conference) but the Nikon Europe pro magazine has obviously been delivered a little earlier than intended

Certainly looks good in the magazine and sooo different from the D3 (not)

As Dave says, it's not just a D3 but with more pixels. It would seem to be aimed more at the studio shooter rather (as were the Canon 's' Series 1 cameras initially).

Andy If you want D3 image to look like D2X's then you just adjust in NX. One click of a button. I assume that wil be the case fore D3X as well.

Hi Andy

I didn't pick up on your 'silent mode' comment.

Having moved from Canon to Nikon only a few months ago, this was one thing that really grated on me. The D3 is so bloomin' noisy (I mean real noise not digital ) when compared to the Canon 1D 3 or 1Ds 3 (even when not in silent mode).

At a wedding it's a nightmare and even at press conferences etc, you can hear the Nikon shooters before you see them

It would appear (and I should be seeing the camera on Monday) that it has neither a silent mode or sensor cleaning which is a bit of a b****r!
