for those of you who shoot landscapes with D-SLR's (well, why not... )there are two great choices now since the D3x is now officially reality. (24,5 MP seems a neat thing together with the new t/s lenses.)
I wonder if anybody would opt for the new Leica S2 with 37 MP and the rough 25 grand (€) street price...
anybody an idea for how much the D3x will sell? (approx at 7k USD?)

Hi George,

A question I'm asking myself. I met with some Phase One reps yesterday - they have a strategic alliance with Leica (looks like they're supplying software for the S2) and it sounds like there may actually end up being TWO S2 bodies when they ship (hitting two different price points). Anyway...I think there's too many unknowns about the S2 at this point to really answer this question. Obviously you get more pixels with the S2, but you have a heck of a lot more lens choices with the Nikon.

At this point I'm about 90% certain I'm going with the Nikon for the land- and animalscapes. But...given how fast they introduced the D700 after the D3, and given how Nikon always seems to like to use a sensor in two or more bodies, I'm going to sit tight for awhile (maybe April/May?) and see if a "D900" appears. Even if it doesn't, the price is sure to drop on the D3x by then! And...we'll also have something more than press-releases from Leica by then.

Cheers...

Brad

While I won't be spending that kind of money on a camera body, my thinking is Nikon has the tilt'shift, macro, long/fast tele, and other lenses. The lenses are more important to me. Yes, the Leica lenses are great, but they just don't have the specialty lenses like Nikon does. You can sometimes find them on eBay for a better price too. And then there's all the other great accessories for Nikon, such as their flash system.
