A tree from Conboy Lake NWR at the beginning of this month. I wish I had had a cherry picker to get high enough to separate the evergreens from the top of the color a little, and that the sky was a little more interesting, but what are you gonna do... It's not one that I'll end up posting to the website, but I thought I'd throw it up as another example of the great color this fall.

And just for fun here's Jep the intrepid photo dog, taken just down the road from the above, boldly dashing in his snazzy rain gear (i.e.- huddling miserably on some stupid old piece of farm equipment in the freezing rain while his idiotic owner does incomprehensibly annoying things instead of dashing back to the warm car as any sensible beast, regardless of whatever embarrassing piece of clothing he had been forced to wear, would do).

Amazing colors John, I was at the same two locations about a week ahead of you and was amazed at the colors this year. Jep is looking very handsome and must be quite the traveling companion!

Thanks Craig. It was your suggestion posted on this forum that headed me in that direction, and it really paid off. Thanks a bunch for that too!

Nothing like a rainy, overcast day to portray saturated fall foliage. I found that out when I was living in Amherst, MA before I moved here. The contrast of the somber gray sky and drab landscape set against the vibrant color is really dramatic!

The color is VERY good....maybe a longer lens and you could have gone back a bit more and then compressed the scene and cropped much closer to the subject...leaving all the unnessasary clutter and even more of the sky....out of the shot.
BTW...cool dog!

Nice colors but I do agree about the clutter. Like you said,a good example of the amazing colors we've had this spring.

Those are some incredible colors, John!
My Bernese, Yukon, would be happy to donate some of his winter coat to Jep.
