Sunset grass plus separate question
Here is one in the style of Brad :). I went out to Quivira tonight to watch the planet/moon convergence and captured this grass as the late sun hit it.

I have a question about processing, and if it is even possible to do what I want to do. I attempted HDR shots of the convergence, but naturally the stars moved between the various exposures. Is there anyway to correct for this motion, plus do a HDR? Will programs such as Photomatix correct for only the star movements without affecting the rest of the scene? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

And the Tallgrasses live on. In my opinion they are one of the few flora that grow in beauty as mother nature lays her winter hand upon the land.
Careful Rob taking pictures of tallgrass can become addictive!

As far as your question. I've only played with demo version of photomatix, which I was impressed with. I believe it can adjust for slight misalignment's but something like the position of objects, in your case the stars, I really don't know. I would be surprised if it would "and" merge multiple exposures properly. I know what I said was basically no help at all. But right on with the tallgrass!

Very nice shot Rob. That end-of-the-day side lighting is beautiful, as is your composition. Sorry I can't help you with the question. I've run into similar problems with sunset and sunrise shots.

Good light on the tallgrass Rob. The warm evening light is very nice.

I'm kind of curious as to why you'd want to use HDR for a shot like that anyway. Why wouldn't you simply make two exposures, one for the moon & planets and one for the sky detail to make a composite image?

Of course I could ask myself the same question ... why didn't I do that last night! :frown:

Great shot Rob. I can tell you Wayne why I didn't try it last night. It was cloudy.... I can't help with the merge either. But it sounds like Wayne's suggestion would work.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've put up some "raw" images at http://gallery.heartland-images.com/album02 if anybody wants to play with them.

After some messing around, I'm beginning to think I'm making it harder than it needs to be, at least with this series. A lot of creative cloning on photo 1 should bring the moon back to a more normal look. I'm still curious if there is a way to HDR images with moving stars though, for other projects :).

Rob, can't answer your question either but I do like the image. You captured the grass with some nice lighting.

Rob: No help on your processing issues but I do like this image. The two points that I'm not sure of are the grass blade from the left stalk crossing the right stalk and the small sliver of shore line at the bottom. The shoreline works OK for me but that one blade really grabs my eye. Just my 2¢. >=))>
