This is the last red squirrel image from me, promise.
Tried something different here but I'm not totally sure it works. Decided to isolate the subject with a combination of exposure and flash. I went for this option due to really poor weather and light.
Won't be to everyones taste but all C&C welcome.
Cheers,
Chris

not sure either on this one, like the idea but the pose and the light especially around the nose just looks wrong.
fair play for trying though!

Excellent idea Chris, but for me it would look better if the eye didn't disappear into the shadows. Certainly one I'd try again if it were mine.

Shows your looking at different ideas and I like it.

I like it Chris though would have been tempted to light from behind?
Yes, I think you are right. I was having a crack at simulating the rim-light effect seen in Miguel Lasa's polar bear image using flash -the flashgun behind the animal would have given a better result.
This second post is close to the original effect achieved by placing a coloured filter over the flash - I've tweaked the colour balance to get a 'low sun' effect. Wasn't sure about it in the end, hence the b&w.
More work needed but you have to try these things!
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,
I think I prefer the colour version, but I agree that backlighting with the flash may have improved the effect slightly
