Green Woodpecker
When you set up for the Thrush family you don't expect this !
Terrible light so had a job trying to tone the shadows down even though the camera was on low.
D200 Sigma 100-500
Not a show stopper but certainly interesting behaviour which is sometimes more important than the picture I feel. More surprises to come !
Cheers

great stuff John, I would expect nothing less on your patch Seriously though, this must have been a very pleasant surprise.

All I get is blackbirds pecking my apples . I like the way the red on the woodpecker complements the red of the apples. Well up to your usual very high standard.
Although the light my not be the best, I find this (again) a beautiful shot.
Nice colourful one.

Great shot.
Is it feeding on the apple or finding grubs inside?

Terrific - I often put apples out - but never have had G Peckers. Thrush, Blackbird, Tits and Starlings - oh and Blacki cap - but this - could only be at Wyre. and you behind the camera!
Just a cracking capture!
