I'm going to be in Palm Springs for a week at xmas and was wondering if anybody can recommend some nice sunrise and sunset locations in and around PS? I'm not going to have a ton of time to do alot of scouting of locations due to having to do the whole "family thing" but any help would be much appreciated. It's also my goal to get out to Joshua Tree as well.
Darren, I highly recommend JTNP for both sunrise and sunset photography, as well as just visiting or hiking around. This is the time of the year for that location. There is also Palm Canyon and The Living Desert too. I have not been to Palm Canyon in years, you might do some on-line research on it to verify it is still in working order. One of the Native American Tribal groups owns and runs that site. If you are into any type of Wildlife shooting, albeit captive, The Living Desert is a REAL treat, even if just for a walk thru visit.
The Salton Sea and Anza Borrego are a bit of a stretch from the area you'll be staying at there in Palm Springs. As such I would dedicate the time more towards the other three closer locations.

If there is snow you can ride the tram up to the top and ski or snowboard for around $20 afterwards not to mention getting snow shots in Palm Springs might be something different.

I second the Joshua Tree NP - it is great this time of year. Depending on the time of day, from Palm Springs there is a roughly north and south entrance (also a west but you can't get there from here ) - its a nice loop drive out of Palm Springs so pick year approach based on sunrise, sunset.
Theres always the wind farms as well. Actually keep your camera at arms length at the airport (assuming your flying) its kind of a neat structure and you can even get a shot of palm trees and snow covered mountains in the same frame.
