Hi
I have a Canon 28-70 f/2.8 lens which is in need of some attention.
Has anybody got any experiences, good or bad, of either Lehmann, Fixation, or any other "Camera Repairers" which they can pass on to me so that I can choose which one to trust with my lens.
I have used Lehmann's very good but sometimes slow if they are waiting for parts from Canon.

Hi Cliff,
I'm not familiar with the repairers that you mention but I do have someone that I Highly recommend and his experience extends over 30 years with customers from NHS Trusts, The Fire Brigade, Police along with numerous professionals, studios, magazine and press photographers etc.. He even designs and builds equipment for the police photography.. (as per his website..)
If you send me a PM I will pass on his details rather than advertise his services on here.. At least by contacting him you can get a quote and go from there.. Just a thought..
An example was that I had a sub-mirror pin replaced by him for £35, at fixation they wanted me to pay £110 to diagnose the problem despite me telling them that I did that myself, I just wanted the repair.. They said that they would have to replace the entire mirror box but my contact simply replaced the worn out nylon pin with a brass one that he brought as a new part from the Canon 'A' series cameras..! I think I would have been ripped off in a big way by Fixation..! Will never deal with them again..
Kind regards,
Brett

i have been using fixation since i came to the uk 5yrs ago. Nothing but good things to say about them. They fixed my 1d's hotshoe while i was quaffing on a sandwich once as i needed it in a hurry.

Hi Brett
I appreciate your good intentions but the caveat I would add is that if the item you intend to have serviced or whatever is still under warranty, you have to be careful of invalidating that warranty by going to anyone who is not on Canon's approved service centre list

Same experience as kevin with Lehmanns - very solid, reliable but if they are waiting on a part occasionally slow (not their fault).
Had mixed results with Lehmann`s. A week or two ago I decided to try Colchester Camera Repair for a repair under warranty of my Canon 40D. Camera was back in my hands within a week, and as good as new. Impressed!
I've used both Lehmann's and Fixation in the past and been very happy with the service and turnaround from both companies.
Lehmann's would be my first choice.

Hi Cliff,
I second Jeremy's suggestion (Colchester Camera Repair) always had a quick turnaround with them, and as they are local to me they have had a look at it (dirty sensor) whilst I went shopping in the town and then picked up my camera when done.
I think for lenses though they send them to Canon's in Borehamwood.
Regards
Rob
