Frozen Food (with repost)
1D2n, 600mm f4 is x1.4, 1/200s, f5.6, iso 640

Well, why let a little frost spoil a good breakfast?

Hello Ian great capture but your processing needs looking at the blacks have lost all the detail, it is very difficult to get the exposure right in this situation but I think you can get some detail back here. Great wintry scene though.

Man that must have been cold going down  I find the branches in the BG a little distracting but still it's a lovely shot Ian. :toast:

He's got the right idea, fruit and berries always taste so much better when chilled  .
Love the behaviour and the wintery setting. I'd agree with Danny about trying to bring a little more detail out of the dark plumage.

Nice seasonal one Ian. At least you get proper snow, its all slushy here and soon falls off the branches.

You've caught the frozen mouthful perfectly. Looks like a tricky exposure. I can see the detail in the dark areas of the bird but I think they need lightening a bit so they can be seen better on a web display. At first I thought the blackbird was under exposed - it isn't its just the overall white of the scene makes it look too dark. Using an Apple Cinema display by the way.

Thanks all - I'll have another look at the blacks, but I'm off to our work Christmas party - might not be a good idea to try when I get home

John - it isn't snow, it is FROST - the best we have had in many years!

Yes Ian, in recent months I've learn how to use the raw processing in PS3 Bridge and that helps us to maintain the detail its worth playing with it for a while until you get the feel of it. The keyboard short cut is Ctrl r, have fun enjoy.

Great action shot - but what a test for a digital with that contrast. Nearly as bad as a black cat in a coal hole !

OK I managed to restrcit mysfelf to a cuople of glasses of wine! Had a go at the blakcs, but as expetced it wasn't easy! I thought I could see detail in the original, but hopefully this is better. Happy for anyone else to have a go though!

Part of the problem could have been the freezing fog of course.

an obviously difficult shot to expose, but I really like the scene. It's remarkable these birds stay warm enough if their bodies are having to thaw out their food. Very interesting.

Hi Ian,

Lovely winter shot! The exposure looks really tricky! The blacks still look blocked on the repost but the whites also look better on the repost too!

Really like this Ian, brilliantly timed and the frost on the berry as its going down is great. Can't have been easy to expose with the blacks and whites.

Also  at the repost text - sure it was just a couple of wines?
